Instagram is an ever-changing app that constantly rolls out updates, changing the way we share, connect, and create. Did you miss an update? We don’t blame you! Let's dive into what’s new to the platform.

1. Reposts: Spread the Content

Starting in early August, Instagram introduced Reposts. Now you can reshare public Reels and posts, complete with creator credit, and conveniently come back to them anytime via a dedicated Reposts tab on your profile.

This new feature is a great way to keep your favorite posts front and center, share third-party content, and highlight your community in new and exciting ways.

2. Instagram Map: Location + Connection

Want to let friends in on your whereabouts or share what’s nearby? The new Instagram map lets you opt in to share your last active location with select friends and browse content from cool spots around the globe.

Properties can use this tool to highlight hyperlocal hot spots that make your location all the more appealing.

3. Reels “Friends” Tab: A Closer Look

If you’ve ever wondered what makes your follower double-tap, you’re in luck! There’s now a dedicated Friends tab inside Reels, highlighting content your friends have liked, commented on, or reposted.

It’s all about sparking conversations and diving into what your crew is vibing with. In the multifamily space, this update gives marketing managers an inside look at what resonates with their target audience and what they engage with.

4. Instagram for iPad: Built for Big Screens

Released September 3rd, Instagram’s new iPad app is optimized for large screens. It launches directly into a Reels feed (their most-watched feature), with Stories at the top and direct messaging just a tap away.

New features include:

  • A Following tab offering “All,” “Friends,” or “Latest” feed options

  • A multitasking layout where you can view messages or alerts without leaving your video

  • Expandable comments that don’t interrupt your Reels viewing

5. Picture-in-Picture (PiP) for Reels: Multitask on the App

Reel lovers, you’re in luck! Instagram is testing PiP mode for Reels; think a floating video window that lets you watch while you browse or DM.

It’s currently in limited testing, but promises smoother multitasking across the app.
